Animation Workshop

Create a two-dimensional stop-motion animation while playing the roles of both animators and stop-motion puppets. The workshop will be led by CMU Animation faculty and current Animation majors and will cover basic animation techniques as well as setting aside time to discuss the path to becoming a successful animator.

Drone Lab Demo and Program Overview 
Moore Hall (Amphitheater, near the Music Building) Demonstrations begin at 12:30 and 2:00 p.m. 
In our Drone Lab, which features more than 30 different drones, you will learn the rules and regulations around drone flight, how to prepare for flight, and yes, even how to fly! As part of the program, you will prepare for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 certification, which is basically earning your drone pilot’s license. This event is weather dependent.

In this session, we will explore photographs related to education from the past, present and future and share what we see, think and wonder about the images themselves, and the ways that students will learn and teachers will teach in the future.

CMU's Mobile Health Central

Mobile Health Central is a nearly 39-foot mobile health vehicle for research, preventative health education and recruitment. Curator’s Tour: Behind-the-Scenes at the CMU Museum

From the tiniest particles via everyday gadgets to the most massive objects, physics lets you understand how the universe works. Join us to investigate some fun activities: trap ions with electric and magnetic fields, use X-rays to study crystals, measure the motion of a bouncing mass with ultrasound, run tiny electric currents through air and your body and learn how a telescope works.

Learn how data can be used in sports by visiting the Rhapsodo camera set up and tracking the speed and dynamics of a baseball or softball after it is hit.   

Tours of Neuroscience Research Labs in the Health Professions Building              
Health Professions Building  
Neuroscience faculty and students engaged in research in the Health Professions Building will be running tours of the labs and facilities for interested students to observe and have research goals explained. These projects and facilities are used and appreciated by CMU students who regularly work as volunteers or as directed research efforts for course credit. Research explores stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, production of cell-based molecular detectors, optogenetics, drug abuse and explorations of neuronal transplant technology. The Adobe Digital Lounge is a space that supports collaborative creativity with group seating, flexible furniture and TVs to display and discuss your work. In addition, we have staff who can answer your questions about equipment and digital creation software such as the Adobe Creative Cloud. Come explore all the Lounge has to offer and design your own personal memento with one of our make-and-take activities. 

CMU Traditions 101

The Medallion. Fire Up! Gentle Thursday. The toilet paper toss. Midnight scream. Gus Macker. The C you don’t walk on. Anspach (pronounced correctly)… CMU’s History goes back over 130 years. That’s over thirteen decades of traditions that have come and gone. Join the staff of the Clarke Historical Library–the home for CMU’s archives–and learn about some of the former traditions of the old Central State Normal alongside the current traditions beloved by today’s Central Michigan University students. Also, take the chance to swing by the Clarke and check out old yearbooks, student newspapers and other documents that capture the history of the student experience at CMU. 

CMU Libraries Tour + Scavenger Hunt 
Park Library (meet by Ponder Coffee), Every 30 minutes beginning at 1:00 p.m.  
Learn more about CMU Libraries through an exciting scavenger hunt activity. As part of this activity, you will receive a tour of the library (roughly 15 minutes). After the tour is completed, participants will be broken up into small groups to complete and fun and engaging scavenger hunt of the library. The first group to finish will win a king-size candy bar (all other guests will win a smaller candy prize).

CMU students have participated in Esports since the mid-2000s. Now, they have their own brand new, dedicated Esports Center, located in the Student Activity Center. After a brief description of the space, guests are welcome to jump into their favorite game!
